Regional Conferences
In order to reflect diverse regional and sub-regional perspectives on armed violence and development, high-level diplomatic meetings are held in different parts of the world.
A regional meeting on armed violence and development for the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean was held in Guatemala on 23 and 24 April 2007. Twelve countries adopted the Regional Declaration of Guatemala on Armed Violence and Development.
A regional meeting on armed violence and development for the countries of the African continent was held in Nairobi, Kenya, on 30 and 31 October 2007. Twenty-eight African countries, 15 regional and international organizations, and more than 20 international and regional NGOs attended the meeting. The Africa Declaration on Armed Violence and Development was adopted by 28 countries.
A regional meeting on armed violence and development for the Asia–Pacific countries region was held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 8 and 9 May 2008. It was attended by governments and representatives of Core Group member governments, international organizations, and NGOs. The meeting was co-chaired by the Governments of Thailand and Switzerland with the UN Development Programme. The Asia–Pacific Declaration on Armed Violence and Development was adopted by 23 countries.
A regional meeting on armed violence and development for the countries of Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and the Caucasus was held in Sarajevo from 13 to 14 November 2008. Fourteen countries adopted the Sarajevo Declaration on Armed Violence and Development.
