Lucha contra la violencia: Prácticas prometedoras para la reducción y prevención de la violencia armada
Este informe, publicado en 2011, se encuentra ahora disponible en español. El informe documenta prácticas prometedoras en la prevención y reducción de la violencia armada (PRVA). Basado en experiencias de múltiples sectores y organizaciones, el informe intenta brindar una mejor comprensión de las prácticas que están dando buenos resultados para así fomentar políticas y programas de PRVA más eficaces y eficientes. La primera sección presenta una breve caracterización de las diferentes formas de intervención sobre programas de PRVA. La siguiente sección provee una visión general sobre las prácticas más promisorias que han sido implementadas en programas de PRVA, tanto directos e indirectos. La última sección describe una serie de recomendaciones claves para la futura programación AVRP.
Translation:
The Working Paper Working Against Violence: Promising Practices in Armed Violence Reduction and Prevention has now been translated into Spanish. It documents promising practices in armed violence reduction and prevention (AVRP). Drawing from experiences across multiple sectors and organizations, it seeks to generate a better understanding of what is working and, in so doing, encourage more effective and efficient AVRP policies and programs. The first section sets out a brief characterization of the different categories of AVRP interventions. The subsequent section provides an overview of promising practices, focusing on both direct and indirect AVRP programs. The final section outlines a number of key recommendations for future AVRP programming.

Non-lethal Firearm Injuries
Globally, firearm violence causes more non-lethal injuries than deaths. Many victims of firearm violence survive, but suffer severe consequences, and their treatment and recovery place a heavy burden on these survivors, their families, communities, and on society.
Non-Lethal Firearm Violence is a new Research Note from the Small Arms Survey and the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development. It examines the impact of firearm assaults as well as that of self-inflicted and unintentional firearm injuries.

On 26-28 June 2013 the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development, the Small Arms Survey, and the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform held an Expert Meeting on armed violence observatories and monitoring systems. In this two-part podcast, meeting participants talk about the purpose, the functions, and the challenges faced by armed violence monitoring systems worldwide. In Part 1, on why such systems are needed and the way they work, we hear from Geneva Declaration Project Coordinator Luigi De Martino, Small Arms Survey Programme Director Keith Krause, Somali Observatory of Conflict and Violence Prevention General Director Abdullahi Mohammed Odowa, and ISS Pretoria’s Crime and Justice Hub Manager Lizette Lancaster.

Femicide: A Global Issue That Demands Action
Femicide is the ultimate form of violence against women and girls and takes multiple forms. For a case to be considered femicide there must be an implied intention to carry out the murder and a demonstrated connection between the crime and the female gender of the victim. So far, data on femicide have been highly unreliable and the estimated numbers of women who have been victims of femicides vary accordingly.
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women last year, the Vienna Liaison Office of the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS) organized a one-day symposium on femicide.
This publication is the result of this symposium and comprises the speeches and presentations of the various experts who attended. They discussed the issue of femicide from different perspectives, addressed the problems related to femicide including impunity and proposed comprehensive ways to fight this crime efficiently. In addition to the speeches this publication gives an overview of the various crimes, including a description of the extent of the respective form of femicide and best practice examples to fight this crime.
