2014 Regional Review Conferences
on the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development

The Permanent Missions of Guatemala and Switzerland to the United Nations Office and other international organizations, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Secretariat of the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development are delighted to invite you to an information event on the 2014 Regional Review Conferences on the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development.

Wednesday 19 February 2014 | 13:00-14:30

Conference Room XXIII, E Building, Palais des Nations | Geneva

The Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development is a diplomatic initiative launched in 2006 by Switzerland, UNDP and more than 40 other countries with the aim of reaching measurable reductions of the global burden of armed violence by 2015. A series of Regional Review Conferences will take place throughout 2014, in order to focus attention on the particular realities of armed violence faced in different regional settings. Each conference will be co-hosted by a Core Group Member from the relevant region in partnership with the Government of Switzerland and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The first conference, for the Americas, will take place in Guatemala. This will be followed by conferences in Kenya for Sub–Saharan Africa; in Morocco for the Middle East and North Africa; in Switzerland for Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia; and in the Philippines for Asia and the Pacific.

Under the motto ‘ending armed violence for peace and development,’ these meetings will allow states to review their steps towards implementing the Geneva Declaration commitments, and will further gather support for the meaningful integration of armed violence reduction and prevention into national and international development processes, including a new development framework that will be established after the conclusion of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2015.

A light lunch will be available before the event.

Please register before Monday 17 February. For further information, registration, and UN accreditation, please contact the Secretariat of the Geneva Declaration, Ms. Natacha Cornaz | T  +41 22 908 5777 | E  Natacha.Cornaz@
